Jimena de la Frontera<\/b>\u00a0is a historic town and municipality located in the province of\u00a0C\u00e1diz<\/a>,\u00a0Spain<\/a>. It is surrounded by the\u00a0Los Alcornocales Natural Park<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>with stunning views of the surrounding country side and Natural park. The village is perched on a hill side crowned by it\u2019s Moorish castle.\u00a0It is also on one of the main paths for migratory birds. Ideal for bird watchers, walkers and lovers of fauna and flora, good food and great atmosphere. Jimena still retains it\u2019s very Spanish feeling.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Today, Jimena’s population including San Pablo and Tesorillo is around 10,000 has been made up of an increasing number of europeans, including Norwegians, Belgiums, French, German and British, many of which have tastefully restored many of Jimena\u2019s traditional houses.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Jimena offers a well equipped health centre (open 24 hours), nursery, primary and secondary schools also the international school of Sotogrande (25min). A municipal swimming pool, sports pavilion, paddle,\u00a0 <\/span>football and horse riding available locally. Ideal for bikers, hickers and walkers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The town is served by road and rail and bus. The main road stretches north to Ronda<\/a>, and south to San Roque<\/a>. The railway station is situated just outside the town in nearby Estaci\u00f3n de Jimena. Several trains a day stop at Jimena on the line between Algeciras<\/a> and Granada<\/a>. Only 30 minute drive to the Mediterranean coast and a 40 minute drive to the white sands of the Atlantic Costa de la Luz and Tarifa famous for kite, wind surfing and night life.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The village of Jimena de la Frontera became a town in 1879,
during the reign of Alfonso XII.<\/p>

The castle was built on the hill by the Moors around 750 A.D. as part of making Jimena a strategic military position, today it is known as Castillo de Jimena<\/a>. Views stretch as far Gibraltar<\/a> to the south. It is believed that the castle was built on Roman ruins, constructed using locally sourced limestone<\/a>.<\/p>
